This kilt pin from our Bee Faithful series is a beautiful way to show your faith on your jacket, purse, hat or a baby’s bag or carrier. The name "onyx" comes from the Greek word for "fingernail," referring to the translucence of the white-colored layer of this multi-layered stone. According to myth, Cupid trimmed the nails of the sleeping goddess Venus. The Fates turned those clippings into stone to prevent even a part of Venus from dying. Onyx is a form of chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline quartz formed in the gas cavities of lava. Black onyx is uniformly black chalcedony.

Our products are handcrafted using the finest materials available to ensure that your pin will be an heirloom for many years to come. Black onyx is a relatively soft stone and is fairly porous, so it should not be cleaned with harsh chemicals (they can seep in and alter the color of the stone), steamers or ultrasonic cleaners. Even mild detergents are not recommended. The best method for cleaning black onyx is a soft, dry cloth or brush. The cloth can be moistened with water when necessary. If you do wet the stone, be sure to dry it before storing or wearing.
